You’ve Got A Friend In Me

Coping with the fact that you’ve got a chronic illness can be quite hard sometimes. Even though I have a lot of support that I’m grateful for, it can be very frustrating when they don’t quite understand the illness or what it entails.

Dealing with it at the start was quite hard and to be honest it was probably to do with the fact that I didn’t know anything about it due to lack of support from my doctor. My diagnosis was quite literally a 2 minute phone call from my doctor saying “You have an underactive thyroid, so I need you to pick up these tablets as soon as possible and you’ll be on them for the rest of your life”. That was it. The end of the call. No explanation.

I didn’t even know what a thyroid is, let alone an underactive one. So more or less everything I know about my chronic illness is from my own research and as you know that’s the main reason I started this blog.

When you’re told that you’ve got an illness for the rest of you’re life with no information or support it can be very isolating. That was until I met my best friend.

We both had just started a new job and we were and still are in the same team. Funny how fate works sometimes. We found out that we both have hypothyroidism and the rest was history.

Having someone in your life who has been through the same struggles as you and who can ride out the rest of the journey with is something special. So we want to be able to do this for others and be a support system for people that aren’t as lucky as us. Oh is that a spoiler? Exciting news coming….

Wishing you all positive vibes x
